Performances from Pulitzer Prize winner Carl Phillips, “one of America’s most original and influential lyric poets,” and Laurel Prize winner Pascale Petit, known for her dazzling, creature-filled explorations of the natural world.
Phillips’s work is marked by a sublime, timeless quality. His arresting poems are known for their ravishing language and their attention to everything that makes us human — desire, loss, love, and the body. This is a chance for Scottish audiences to hear what The Guardian has called “the best that poetry offers.”
Multi-award-winning poet Petit is known for vivid work in which myth, memory, and nature intertwine. Her poetry is muscular, sensuous, and emotionally charged. In her recent collection, Beast, Petit sings what Mab Jones calls “the song of survival,” as personal and environmental trauma are transformed.
Join us as two expansive poetic voices take centre stage to share readings from their acclaimed bodies of work.
