Our Building

The Byre is an award-winning building, often called ‘the best small theatre in Scotland’.

Our rooms and spaces have been designed and equipped to support excellence in performance and offer the potential for a range of artistic, cultural, social and intellectual experiences, all supported by a small, dedicated and expert team of technicians, front facing staff and colleagues working behind the scenes.

The building and the expertise of our staff are very much in demand and, therefore, we encourage enquiries for collaboration which make the best use of our excellent resources, with the understanding that not all requests can be fulfilled due to the nature of our packed schedule.

Here is a brief introduction to the Byre’s spaces:

The  A. B. Paterson Auditorium

The  A. B. Paterson Auditorium is our main theatre space with 216 seats – each seat enjoys plenty of leg room and a clear view of the stage. The auditorium has played host to a diverse range of live performances and events. Backstage, the A. B. Paterson Auditorium also has access to 3 dressing rooms.

The Lawrence Levy Studio

The Lawrence Levy Studio is a flexible studio space with a seated capacity of up to 60 people for a performance or 72 for a screening. The studio has technical facilities including specialised lighting, sound amplification, film screen and projector, and two adjacent changing rooms.

The Neil Anderson Conference Room

The Neil Anderson Conference Room is a comfortable space with a screen and projector. used for meetings, teaching, and small presentations.

Social Spaces

The Byre’s social spaces include two foyers and a large space on the ground floor.
