Public Engagement: Explorathon

Explorathon is the Scottish edition of European Researchers Night, which takes place in 300 cities across Europe in late November every year.

Explorathon  events are normally held in St Andrews, Glasgow, Edinburgh, and Aberdeen when researchers have an opportunity to share their latest research with audiences beyond academia. In St Andrews, the Byre collaborates with the Public Engagement with Research team to host a variety of events including everything from ghost tours of St Andrews to presentations and performances made by marine biologists I tandem with artists as they research whale song.

The Public Engagement with Research (PER) Team at the University of St Andrews actively encourages researchers from all disciplines – arts, humanities, and sciences – to deliver activities as part of this exciting and packed programme, which celebrates the extraordinary research being carried out at universities across Europe.

The PER team is organising online activities and events including primary and secondary school ‘visits’, scavenger hunts, comedy nights, Pecha Kuchas, and tours of research facilities, whether that be a library or a lab.
