Research and Teaching

Research and Impact Studies

The Byre supports the University’s research and impact agenda, and teaching programmes directly, by facilitating opportunities for Public Engagement, and indirectly, by encouraging curiosity and creativity through problem solving in learning.

The Byre works in partnership with academics, researchers, and colleagues to showcase some of the ground-breaking research at the University of St Andrews, through our programming and expertise in presenting public events and exhibitions. This collaboration includes public engagement using the Byre team’s marketing skills to attract audiences, gather data and provide insight and evaluation opportunities to contribute to the measurement of Research Impact.

The Byre is currently cited in 11 REF Impact Case Studies and in 6 out of 21 Unit (s of Assessment)-level Environment templates, demonstrating the theatre’s significant place in the suite of public facing units of the University which can meaningfully engage the public.

Thanks to the University’s commitment to Social Responsibility, there has been significant, recent investment within St Andrews to create and augment dedicated facilities for wider public engagement, including the Wardlaw Museum, the Laidlaw Music Centre, and the Byre Theatre.

If you have an idea and would like to work with the Byre team to develop it, then please get in touch. Tell us about the idea, who you want to reach, how and when by emailing Kally Lloyd-Jones or Jan McTaggart
