Step back in time to the dawn of science fiction cinema with Aelita: Queen of Mars, the 1924 Soviet silent film directed by Yakov Protazanov.

Aelita: Queen of Mars is a pioneering masterpiece that blends the tumultuous post-civil war Soviet Russia with an imaginative journey to Mars. Follow engineer Los on his quest to the Red Planet, where he joins forces with the captivating Queen Aelita to spark a revolution against the tyrannical Elders.

Pianist Matthew Shiel will enhance this cinematic curiosity with an improvised live score. Known for his dynamic and captivating performances, Shiel’s score promises to transport the audience to the visionary world of 1920s science fiction.

This screening is part of the Wardlaw Museum’s Alien Worlds programme and will include an introduction from Dr Emily Finer from the School of Modern Languages.

Box Office is open 10.00am-4.30pm Monday to Saturday, except when there is an evening event, when it remains open until after the performance starts. It is closed on Sundays, unless there is a performance, when box office opens two hours before the start time.
